Between 50 and 70 percent of American children will require braces before they are adults. Given how frequently children in the US have this orthodontic care, it is virtually considered a rite of passage.
Crooked or gapped teeth are among the most evident indicators that your children may need braces. However, the need for braces may not always be justified by these issues.
Below we will look at some other signs and symptoms that your children might show to let you know they need braces.
Your child may require orthodontic treatment if any of these conditions apply:
Difficulty breathing (most noticeably, mouth breathing)
Snoring during sleep
Bags under the eyes
Eating difficulties
Difficulties speaking and issues with their speech
Packed teeth
Crooked or misaligned bites
Teeth and jaws that are clearly out of balance
Around the age of 7, experts advise you to take your children to the dentist and/or orthodontist. But feel free to make an appointment if you notice any of the aforementioned issues before that time. The earlier you treat dental problems, the easier it will be to fix them. Keep in mind, that once your child begins to go through puberty, it will be a longer and more difficult process to correct the jaw and teeth.
